Okay, can I just say that I have SOOOO much respect for the people out there doing 5k and 10k run/walks!! I did my first one over the weekend and all I can say is yikes!!
Pace: 16:32 Overall Time: 51:17.77
I came in dead-last in my age catagory, but I have to be truthful, I was pretty happy with myself just for finishing the race. That third mile was really rough on me. Walking on a treadmill and around a flat track at school in NO WAY prepared me for the hills. I guess I really need to pump up the incline on that treadmill!
So, my boyfriend, his sister (much better shape than me) and me were all getting ready for the race to start. We were kind of in the middle of the group of people chatting before everything got started. I'd had a long talk with my boyfriend the night before telling him that I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up with him or his sister. He assured me that we'd go my pace and that knew I could do it. I was a little nervous before the race, but I felt pretty good (even though it was WAY early for me to be awake =0p Geez! College student here!) that I'd even agreed to do something that could be considered excersise (with my attitude generally being, "if you don't try, then you don't fail --something I'm trying to fix). Well, the signal to start happened and WOOSH! everyone around me started taking off running. I looked back at my boyfriend with what I'm sure was a panicked look on my face. I was here to walk, not run! I don't remember actually asking him what to do, but I heard him say "Fake it!" So, there I went. The girl that always refuses to excersise, that told her 5th grade gym teacher that she'd rather sit out and copy the dictionary than participate in the 1 mile run, was running with massive amounts of fit bodied people passing her. I was out in front of my boyfriend and his sister and I could hear them chatting and giggling behind me while I was gasping for breath after about a block. All I kept thinking was, "They tricked me!!" This was supposed to be low impact! This was supposed to ease me into excersise!! This was supposed to be fun!!! Hehe. Looking back a few days later, I suppose I can laugh at the situation, but I was pretty aggrevated at the time. Let's look at this logically. The best way to have an out of shape girl start a race is NOT by having her use up tons of energy and oxygen in the first 5 minutes.
So, what did it teach me? I guess it helped me realize how very out of shape I am. I can't be this out of shape for Vegas! So, my goal is to walk at least 3 miles during the week. I'm going to try very hard to work myself up to a 15 minute mile. I might even try doing a little jogging after I figure out a good pace for myself. I'll hopefully work myself up to 6 miles a week after a little bit of adjusting to a new schedule. It also taught me that walking up hills makes my butt hurt! Finally, it taught me that I could do it, but that I need to train a little bit if I ever hope to make a 45 minute 3k =0)
Today, I bought my first magazine ever. hehe. I never thought I was a magazine reader, but I sat down and read First: For Women On The Go go tonight. It had some cute information in it and some interesting recipes. I think I might even try to pick up some chickpeas (which I'd never even heard of before) next time I go shopping at the store.
Today's Food:
Breakfast: Diet Coke (Mondays are rough on me. I never feel like I have "enough time" because I'm trying to make sure I have all my homework done =0p
Lunch: 1 cup cheese raveoli with a little bit of basil garlic pesto. I drank a cup of v-8 fruit fusion with this meal instead of my normal diet coke =)
Dinner: Little sis cooked. Always a little scary because I don't know exactly what is going into the meal. Tonight she made fried rice with chicken. At least I take comfort in the fact that she "learned" the recipe from me, so I know she didn't deviate too far and that she fried the rice with non-stick spray instead of oil.

I can't believe you have never bought a magazine before! Where have you been living? In the middle of the wop wops???(as in the middle of nowhere!)... and as for my pies... meat inside them .... steak and ham and mince and cheese... they are devine, watch for the photos!!! LOL And yes, I agree, Steve has turned into a good looking guy, takes after his mum !
Oh yes! Forgot, my philosophy is : if you can read, you can cook... any fool can follow a recipe eh? Say "Yes Chris" now.....
Congratulations on your run. Just finishing is an achievement - who cares what your time was? Oh, except that now you have something to beat next time. :-D
Honestly....Just doing a 5K or 10K is a reward in itself...I'm sure you felt pretty proud to complete it...
The closest I got to doing a 5K was 9 years ago. My employer was sponsoring an event and I was going to participate...Weather ended up cancelling the event, but I still have the t-shirt! I wear it to the gym to make people think I'm healthy :)
Unrelated note:
I told you I would give some Vegas tips...Here's a good a place as any to drop the knowledge:
-> Cool Place to Party: Voodoo Loungue (Rio) - A supplier took us here last time and the place rocked. It costs $25 to get in (or free if a business partner picks up the tab) and you go to the very top of thr Rio. There is an indoor and outdoor section. When we were there, the Indoor area had a very cool Sublime cover band playing. Go past the band to get outside and you are on the roof of the Rio (52 floors up!). Dance music was playing and you had a great view of the Strip! A little pricey and Rio is slightly off-strip, but would do it again in a heartbeat.
-> Fun, Non-Dance Party Place: Bar at Times Square (NY, NY)- If you love to sing out loud in bars to songs you know, this is the place for you. Dueling Piano Bar. Can get packed, but fun time. Also fun to watch the piano players goad people into spending hundreds of dollars to play a particular song...Always stop here when I'm in Vegas...
-> Best Casino for Younger Crowd: Hard Rock - They have a younger crowd here by far...no blue hairs on the slots...and you can play cheap table games ($1 black jack tables)...
That's it for now...when I think of more I'll post...
