Curious about butter


Thanks for the comments. Now I have a couple other questions for you that I'd love a response on!


1) What is the deal with the spray butter?

I mean, if you believe the nutrition info, it is pretty much nothing...and yet...it still tastes like butter. I like the stuff a lot, but I read a long, long time ago that this stuff was a little too good to be true. Anyone have any information on hidden calories or fats?

2) What is a good thing to do with spinach? No, feeding it to a bunny rabbit is not an option. I bought some at the store and now I'm kind of just pondering what to do with it. I ate some rolled up in turkey lunch meat for lunch today and that was pretty good, but there has to be some fun interesting way to slip it into my meals. One rule, I'd like fairly healthy recipes AND I hate vinegar. I know, I know...for some of you out there reading that I've probably just sinned against everything you and your nation stands for ...hehe...but it is the truth. It is definitely a developed taste that I have yet to develop.

Spinach, called silver beet here... is fantastic in a quiche with other veges and cheese.

I bought the spray butter too - wanted to drink it actually once I saw that it was virtually zero! Not sure what the deal is - but I am not going to question it - I want it to be true. :) Take care!

OK. This is the truth about artificial butter: They are lying. It is real butter with carcinogens added so it tastes slightly weird. Then they tell you it has no calories in order to sabotage the efforts of fat people to lose weight.

Spinach is great. You can eat it in turnovers (I did a whole blog post about spinach), pasteles, empanadas, creamed, with cheese, in salads, with other steamed veggies, by itself right out of the bag, or you can turn it into spinach dip for your carrots.

I would avoid that stuff. I am sure it has calories, but somehow, because of the serving size being minimal, they get away with stating "zero calories per serving."

Spinach is great with a bit of vinegar.

Spray butter and spray oil (for cooking) are indeed butter/margarine and oil. The dietary information is given for one little spritz. According to FDA rules is a serving size has less than 0.5 grams they can round it down and say it has zero. IOW, if you spray the crap out of toast with spray butter, it's the same as spreading on a piece of regular butter.

There are a lot of great spinach dishes. Betty Crocker Health Cooking Cookbook has several.

Spinach is yummy. I like to put it in a pan that I've sprayed with Pam, put a tsp of minced garlic, and just leave it on med-high heat for about 4 minutes. I throw it into everything ... sandwiches, omelets, salads, etc.

Hi - I love spinach with roasted garlic and fish (usually salmon), but any nice steamed fish is good. A nice spinach salad is always good too, I like mine with a hard boiled egg finely chopped, some cherry tomatoes and lots of mushrooms, and a touchlow fat ranch dressing.
